May Art Dare Prize
USA
“Arriving in Greece with just a couple days to go before the Art Dare deadline, I had intended to sketch outdoors with my Tombow brush pens. The clear light of the Greek Island of Paros just asked for the delicacy of watercolor, so I made these paintings while the brush pens waited for another day.
These two images represent the two main color themes I saw around me: landscape colors of lavender, cool greens plus straw yellows and seascapes of cobalt blue, ultramarine, turquoise and lavender. Shifting light and moving objects keep the painting process a little tentative, which is why I enjoy the lively challenge of painting outdoors.”
