“I am mostly a self-taught artist, drawing and sometimes painting as a hobby. My intentions when creating this artwork were not well defined, technical parts and the idea of surrealism excluded. The rest were based on going with the flow and adjusting the composition as I kept going.”
“When I look at this image, I get a sense of whimsy, wonder, and magic. Also I feel warm and a little haunted at the same time which I think is because you’re using a lot of smudging in a wonderful way to use charcoal it’s haunting but magical at the same time.
Normally I tell people to stay away from centered compositions because it’s kind of an easy way to go but in this case I think it’s really working towards the feeling that’s being evoked in this image mostly because it really reminds me of a snow globe in the magic and isolation that a snow globe has, similiar to this isolated land mass with a figure above it in this piece.
Moving forward I would love to see you work on activating every part of the page even though it is a centered composition. The top third of your image and all of your edges seem to be forgotten a little bit and I think that would really help move our eye around the piece rather than falling straight into the center and getting stuck there.
Overall great work and I can’t wait to see more!”
