Artist Statement

“I am 15 years old and currently studying in an international school in China. I have been learning visual art for about 3 years, inconsistently. Thus I am not a professional artist or student overall, in addition to that, I have never painted a portrait before this significant piece.

My intention toward this artwork was to successfully recreate my brother’s face and making sure the proportions are on point. During the process of the creation, I have been watching a lot of Art Prof videos and many others for guidance.

I also changed the skin tone over a period of time since there was several skin tones on the portrait which the light and the shadow create. The portrait was captured in a moment, so I added some sparkles of snow flake on the background that are not too much of a distraction, and I felt like the blue background corresponds quit well with the blue shirt.”
