Artist Statement

“I am a graphic designer (day job) working on creating an illustration portfolio in my free time with the goal of eventually going out on my own as an illustrator. I like to use color and pattern in my work to create a whimsical vibe.

I created a series of pieces inspired by different American folktales. This piece was inspired by the story of Rip Van Winkle. I thought it could be cool to have Rip’s beard turn into the treetops for the forest where the little magical men have their party. It plays to the dreamlike reality present in the story. I want the viewer to question whether the story actually happened or whether it was all an elaborate dream had by a lazy man.”
