Prof Lieu’s experienced advice and encouragement to me personally on my art! I also love that this was a small group with similar interests and we were able to share so many techniques, tips, and experiences.

It’s valuable to me to have Prof Lieu’s direction as well as to hear from other artists. Great group!

I loved seeing the range of watercolor techniques you did at the workshop, several portraits showed really careful attention to the nuances in the wrinkles. At the same time, the portraits you did towards the end of the workshop were so loose, spontaneous and showed bold departures from the reference photos.

If you continue working with watercolor, I think it would be worth exploring how to convey texture. Dry brushing is a technique that is really helpful for that, it can give you marks that are grittier, and that have more of a bite.

I’m thinking if you started with a gestural approach and layered dry brushing on top you would get a very rich range of textures.

“I love that Prof Lieu takes the time to write up the guides and put everything together for us so that we can prepare, at least mentally.

The videos are very nice too even though I didn’t use them for the workshop, I do like using them outside of it when I just need a good warm up or just need some ideas.”
