Alex Rowe: Book Illustrator
Hi! My name is Alex, and I am so excited to be working with you as a TA and to share my love of art and my love of teaching with you. For me, my love of art is not just about the creation, but about the storytelling, and how the viewer interacts with that story. I get the most happiness from my work when others see it, and it makes them happy, and makes them laugh, or makes them think about something. For me, art is a shared process, and that’s kind of why I love teaching art so much.
I worked at a summer camp teaching young teenagers how to draw, some of them for the first time. I worked as a TA at the Rhode Island School of Design. In those two very different groups, young kids who have never drawn before, and young adults who had been drawing their whole lives, the unifier was that kind of joy and spark that art brought.
For artists, it’s the way to interact with the world, which is why being an art teacher and constantly learning and being in an artistic community is just as important to an artist as making the art itself.
