This guide will walk you through, step by step how activities in Art Club work. When you first join, it will be overwhelming for a little while so let us help you figure out how to navigate things.
Start with 1 or 2 activities so you can settle in at the beginning. (we can make recommendations) We never want Art Club to be stressful for you, or for you to feel pressure to participate in everything. (no one can)
We are happy to provide individualized support so that you can streamline Art Club into an easy to digest manner that works for you.
1 on 1 Call
I’ll get you started with a 20 min., 1 on 1 call. We can chat about anything you want, and it’s okay if you don’t know what you want to talk about!
Some topics people often like to discuss are your goals, recommendations for how to study, what to do next, and how to get the most out of Art Club.

Member Tips
“Treat Art Club like a studio you return to. Use it in phases: sometimes you share a lot, sometimes you just quietly work and read.
It helps to choose one intention (e.g., “ink studies for 4 weeks”) and keep your attention on a few relevant channels so you don’t lose yourself in too much input.”

“Pace yourself, there’s a lot going on in the server and it can be a bit overwhelming. You don’t have to see it all!”
“Dive in! Art Club is a kind and supportive space where there aren’t any stupid questions.”
“The 1 on 1 audio critiques help me grow as an artist, but the open studios voice sessions do too, as I hear questions from others that I would not have thought of.”

“Aways reach out with questions even if you think they might sound ‘dumb.'”
“Fellow art club members have a wealth of knowledge too.”
“If you don’t post your art, you won’t grow from the feedback the staff gives.”

Voice Channels
Voice channels are where you can speak to our staff on voice! See below the 3 voice channels we have.

There is no link to join like there is in Zoom. Simply click on the voice channel to enter.
During all voice sessions, you can see my screen, share your art, and more.
Critiques
Art Club critiques are a 2 min. audio recording by Prof Lieu which are accompanied by a written transcript. Watch a sample critique.
The critique channels are a “forum” channel so creating a post is different from writing in the text channels.
Often members will need several rounds of critiques as their artwork progresses, the critique channels consolidate everything in 1 place for easy reference.
Many enjoy listening and reading other members’ critiques, sometimes it’s easier to absorb a critique when it’s not your artwork!

Study Plans
Often it’s easy for your learning to feel fragmented and hard to keep track of. Our Study Plan template is an easy way for you to create a solid plan so you can consolidate your learning and resources, and create a path for how to approach things.

The template has step by step instructions and we encourage you to have fun adding images and content that helps your learning feel easier.
We recommend doing a first pass on your own, and then hopping on a voice call so you can review your plan with us. You can ask questions and post progress in the STUDY-PLANS channel.
Have fun looking at other members’ study plans! Seeing how other people learn, and their short term and long term goals can be really informative as you work on your own.
Tech Support
We can answer your questions promptly, everyone needs tech support at some point. Lots of members are happy to help too, ask, ask, ask!
We have moderators who are ready to assist you too.
Share Your Art
We love seeing the diversity of artworks members are creating!
Share finished/old artworks in SHOW-TELL and works in progress in WIP.
Add a spoiler if the image might be triggering for others.

Open Studios
Open Studios is live mentoring sessions where you can get feedback from us on voice while you work on your personal projects.
So many of us find it difficult to find chunks of time to our artwork. Open Studios makes it easy because we set the times for you.

Start an artwork at the beginning and post that early stage. Get feedback from us on voice, work some more, and get another round of feedback!

Feedback is often most impactful in real time because you are getting support in the moment.
Sessions are 2 hours, and occur 3 days per week.
Sundays 11-1pm EST
Mondays 2-4pm EST
Thursdays 6-8pm EST
There is no requirement to speak on voice during Open Studios, many members enjoy listening and hearing about nerdy art topics.
You’ll learn as much from seeing each other’s works in progress and ideas as you will from our staff!
Q&A
These are live group mentoring sessions led by 1 staff artist where you can ask questions about any topic, have your artwork critiqued, and more.
There is no requirement to speak on voice, a lot of people enjoy listening and working on their own projects at the same time. You don’t have to speak on voice to have a question answered, or to have your artwork critiqued.
We do close speaking requests 30 min. into a session, so please type TALK into #party-chat as soon as you decide to speak.
Often #party-chat has it’s own lively conversation going on while we are speaking on voice! This is a great place to get started interacting by typing live during the session.
Video Library
Art Club has it’s own exclusive video library where you will find a diverse range of topics in wellness, professional development, art supplies and techniques, art alongs, the artistic process, and more.
Video Replies
Sometimes a big question gets asked in Art Club that require a more comprehensive answer. I record video replies so I can go deeper into the conversation.

New videos are announced in the #videos-streams under the News channels.

Live Streams
Live streams are a combination of discussions and art alongs! With a small group we can have more in depth conversations and you’ll get more personal attention.

If you creating art in response to the live stream topic, you can post your art in #party-chat and get your work critiqued on the live stream.
You don’t have to draw the same subject during an art along, feel free to work on any artwork you are working on and share with us.
Art Club live streams will not show up on our YouTube channel because they are private.
Go to #videos-streams to get the link before the stream begins.
