This video shows the results of the April 2025 Art Dare: Drawing with Scissors.

Prize Winner
Marie Etienne
For this art dare I experimented with solid color construction paper, tissue paper, toilette tissue, aluminum foil, mod podge and scissors. Basically, I used things I had around the house.
The image represents the sun’s rays reflected on the sea. I was inspired by Turner’s paintings depicting seascapes and waves.

I wanted to recapture the feeling of peace I get when I go to the beach on a sunny day. I generally stare out toward the distant horizon lost in my thoughts mesmerized by the beautiful golden orange of the sun rays shining on the ocean waves.
The gentleness of the cool breeze on my face and the melodic rhythmic crashing sound of the waves against the rocks makes me feel calm.
The following three pieces are ideally meant to be shown together. They are all made using solid construction paper, scissors and mod podge.
I was influenced by a number of artist who used paper as their medium. One of the most impressive artist who used paper was Matisse. At the later part of his life, Matisse began to go blind. His passion for art never subsided despite this. He used construction paper and created unusual shapes to construct his artwork. My favorite piece is titled “ Blue Nude.”
Other artist who used paper as a medium include Georgia O’Keefe, Eric Carle and Linda Wallis.
I was inspired by them and attempted to create these three pieces in construction paper. My focus was to create interesting abstract shapes with different colors (both primary and complimentary).
I also was motivated by all the encouragement and feedback I received from the Art Prof artist who participated in this month’s art dare. The camaraderie and support I received was absolutely amazing. I feel blessed to be part of the Art Prof community.
Honorable Mention
As someone whose immediate future is tightly wound up in political decisions, my passion for politics also inspire me to see the beauty in decisions which may shape and colour our futures.
The title of the piece is International Relations.
