Jean, Acrylic paint on 14×11″ canvas

A portrait of my grandmother. She spent the last 10 years of her life deteriorating with Alzheimer’s. I didn’t get to know her very well as a child.
I know I loved her and she loved me, but in the period I knew her, she was the epitome of “grandmotherly.” I wanted this image of her to portray a vibrant, beautiful young woman with her life ahead of her.

Honorable Mention
My idea for this art dare is to merge roots with human anatomical parts, particularly, the heart, brain, eye balls, and a hand.
Here, in the Philippines, roots and arteries/veins/capillaries have the same Tagalog translation which is “ugat” and I try to incorporate it into my pieces using fineliners and brush pens.
It’s been a year since the last time I used my pens to create a piece, so I decided to make it as my medium for this particular art dare and I had fun!
