I found designing magazine covers so much more cerebral than painting. There was a lot of tech to work with.

Picking up a brush and paint feels so different. Art Club really helped fill in those knowledge gaps and taught me a lot about font.

The concept of “Attuned” is a visual exploration of the home as a “Sentient Space.” This idea suggests that our homes and the objects within them possess a consciousness, spirit, or energy that we can connect with.

My inspiration came from a sign I encountered in an antique shop that read something like, “Remember, all these items are vintage and antique. If you choose to take them home, they may act mysteriously in new spaces.”

I love this sign because it resonates with the Japanese philosophy that objects can possess a spirit. I envision a magazine that intersects well-being and Japanese philosophy, featuring “granny” hobbies or slow hobbies, along with interior design as a practice for wellness and longevity.

Drawing on this inspiration, I created two magazine covers, “Attuned: Volume One” and “Attuned: Volume Two,” keeping the design simple and letting the photography shine.

In these photographs, I aimed to capture a nostalgic feeling of home through the lens of my dad’s almost-vintage Nikon DSLR, passed down to me. The dust on the lens is intentional, as it perfectly symbolizes a lived-in space…one that has character and spirit!
