Prize Winner

Antoaneta Kiryakova

I’m sharing these on behalf of my mother. She received a felting kit for her birthday and quickly fell in love with it. Although she had never tried felting before, it has now become her favourite way to spend her free time, she can hardly put it down!

Since this is completely new to her, these pieces are her first attempts (the pirate was the very first one she made).

Honorable Mention

Zoe Craig

Intraterrestrial

I’m in college for computer science, so I wanted to explore the concept of puppets through the lens of artificial intelligence, with code and wires controlling behavior, instead of traditional puppet “strings.”

The scientist in the painting seems to be in a trance, which reflects the way humanity is influenced by AI as much as it is influenced by us. This piece asks the question: is AI really in our control? Who is the puppet in this situation?
