The Angler
I decided that I need a fish helmet. You never know when you might need a fish helmet.
Shipping boxes that I’d been using under my winter squash to make the armature. Newspaper and wheat paste for the paper mache. Egg carton for the eyes. Plastic strawberry clamshell for the fins. Car wax sponge for the tongue. Dried up pencil eraser for the lure base.
Weirdly curved piece of reed that I can never bring myself to toss for the teeth ( a rare scrap hoarding win). Rustoleum leftover from a garden project to paint the fish. Broccoli used to paint on dappled skin texture. Cat toy for the lure.
I spent lots of time trying to arrange scenes that would somehow make sense of all the different elements, if that’s possible.

The City of Colistin is an antibiotic outcropping devoted to annihilating the magenta, rod shaped bacteria the drug (Colistin) is formulated to treat. This urban center is made from what was left over after a course of home IV antibiotics (I switched to another drug mid-treatment).
The vials were injected with colored ink. The mylar bottom is the envelope that the vials were delivered in. The background is made from the information packets that are always thrown away with the box.

On the right is a group of bacteria, basking in the glow of the large Colistin receptacle; they are not yet aware of their imminent demise (see syringe jail, left). The tower of colored syringes on the left represent the unified mission of this futuristic antibiotic city.
