I decided to capture the interesting negative spaces one sees in New York City (NYC) scaffoldings. The scaffoldings are built to support workers and materials during the construction, maintenance, or repair of buildings.
In NYC, scaffoldings are everywhere. Many New Yorkers view them as eye sores. I see them as sculptures which have interesting negative spaces. 6×5 discarded box cover, old magazines, aluminum foil, acrylic paint and rope.

Honorable Mention
For this project, Carolyn used techniques similar to those used to appliqué fabric in quilting. These techniques played quite well with the ideas of removal of negative space to form an image.
She sketched overlapping leaves on card stock, removed the card stock from the areas between the leaves, glued the card stock to fabric, and wrapped the fabric through those holes. Then used the result to make the cover to a sketchbook.
