“I learned so much working on this art dare. Packaging self sticking tape does not hold well and 2 inches is smaller than I thought.

This project involved learning the details of making envelopes, packages, matches and match boxes by viewing how the original items are constructed.

Materials are recycled junk mail, index cards, brown paper bags, Magic Tail gel pen and colored pencils. The project also inspired redesigning my calling card as a match box with my email on the back of the match sticks.

They are not part of my dare entry as they are 3 by 1/2 inches(image labeled disqualified). I have included pictures to share scale, and show the failed drafts”

When I saw that the art dare for this month was tiny art, I knew that I wanted to explore feelings of solitude and loneliness, something I would usually achieve by making use of space around the subject.

After a few composition attempts that felt either too busy or too empty, I decided to incorporate a limited palette idea that I had been thinking about: phthalo green and quin magenta.

Mixing the 2 resulted in deep blues that leaned purple or green. I landed on my final composition of a tiny boat floating ominously adrift beneath a darkened sky.

To maintain the magnitude of space around the boat at such a small scale I had to carefully go in with a tiny lettering brush to add the sailboat and ripples in the water.
