This video shows the results of the June 2024 Art Dare: Eyes. Discussion led by Art Prof Clara Lieu and Teaching Artist Jordan McCracken-Foster.
Prize Winner
“The prompt spoke to me on so many levels. How many times do we look without seeing? How many times and how many ways have eyes evolved over the eons?
How many times have we cried our ‘eyes out’ with our closest friends? How many of us have shined a flashlight into the dark and seen the thousands of eyes glowing back at us? This was a very fun art dare to do!”
Honorable Mention
“I have really expressive eyes! I’ve grown to really love them and I’ve appreciated being able to see other women who look more like me in media in recent years. I wanted to pay tribute them with this Art Dare.
I took photos taken of me and cropped them to focus on my eyes and eyebrows. I simplified the photos to just four values each. Then I used acrylic paint to recolor scrap fabrics from previous sewing projects in each of the four values.
I used the fabric pieces to create collage of the photos. I chose the colors to represent the emotion expressed by my eyes in each of the photos.”
