Prompt

- Vary the scale of the person or object so that they get smaller as they move further back into the space.
- Use atmospheric perspective to create depth in the scene.
Examples
Neil Espinosa, Wadalafer, Crissie, Ashley Tanelle
Atmospheric Perspective
- Draw the objects in the foreground so that they have high contrast, are more crisply articulated, and have details.
- As objects get further back into the distance, make them smaller, blurrier, and with lower contrast and no details.

Landscapes Curriculum 1
This video is part 1 in a Landscape Curriculum designed for self-taught artists. This discussion reviews many techniques and approaches that can be used to create compelling landscapes in a wide range of art media.
Concepts like atmospheric perspective, texture, and light are explained in great depth. Discussion led by Art Prof Clara Lieu and Teaching Artists Cat Huang and Lauryn Welch.
Atmospheric Perspective
Atmospheric perspective in art creates the illusion of space in a 2D artwork. Atmospheric perspective emphasizes spatial intervals, the distance between objects where as objects recede into the distance, they become less detailed, lower in contrast, and more blurry.
Objects in the foreground by contrast are articulated with crisp details and high contrast in order to anchor them in the composition. Using paintings and drawings from contemporary art and art history, concrete examples illustrate how atmospheric perspective is used by artists to achieve the effect of space.
